File Security

How PDFSimple protects your files in transit and at rest, and how to add password protection to your own PDFs using the Protect tool.

PDFSimple takes the security of your files seriously. Here is how we protect your data at every stage.

In transit

All file uploads and downloads use HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher). Data in transit is encrypted end-to-end between your browser and our servers.

At rest

Uploaded and output files are stored temporarily in isolated storage. Each file is accessible only via the secure link generated for your session. Files are permanently deleted after the retention window for your plan.

Processing isolation

Each PDF operation runs in an isolated worker process. Workers do not share memory or file system access with other users' jobs.

Your files are never used to train machine-learning models or shared with third parties. Processing is strictly limited to the operation you requested.

Password-protecting your PDFs

Use the Protect PDF tool to add password encryption to your documents before sharing them. You can set both an open password (required to view) and a permissions password (controls printing, copying, and editing).

  1. Go to Tools → Protect PDF.
  2. Upload the PDF file.
  3. Enter a strong password.
  4. Click Protect and download the encrypted PDF.
